Boy do I need to practice.
John Martyn never anchored down hmmmm
I have been playing the guitar for 10+ years and most people consider me a really good guitar player when they hear me. Little do they know, I can barely do step 2 🙁 I have no control of my thumb and Tommy has shown me the light
Step 3 is insane to think about as you're doing four things with two hands. Alternating the left index finger while holding the bottom half of the chord, alternating your right thumb over 3 strings and picking off beat with your first three right hand fingers. As someone who only played with a pick for years, here I go repeating this for hours till I get it.
Your my favorite im glad your showing us. You have that strut in the park groove
May I suggest looking at the Blue Chip thumb pick? Known for the proprietary pick material, BC has ingeniously riveted a stainless steel wrap to the amazing pick material. That alone is fantastic, but I discovered a benefit that even BC does not mention, to the best of my knowledge, that benefit being the THINNESS of the stainless steel wrap. With a plastic thumb pick, like a National, it is not uncommon for the thickness of the wrap to catch on the strings. You'll find that almost impossible with the BC. ENJOY!!!!
Its give me chills after a jazz conservatory and 15 years on the guitar, playing 1 hours straight. Tommy is the man.
Help, chek guitaris alip ba ta from Indonesia,
For being one of the world's best guitarists, you have such a passion for learning people like me.!!

Like anything worthwhile in life, it don’t come easy. But stick with it, don’t give up
& you will develop. It can take a long time, but anyone can do this.
I"ve no doubt as this is from the Maestro. Thank you very much Maestro Emmanuel.
That may be the simplest yet most comprehensive finger picking lesson you could have ever squeezed into seven minutes! Thanks Tommy.
Okay, I am going to practice, wil be back within two years for lesson two.
Hi Tommy from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. You talk about anchor down. I now notice who plays anchoring down. I wish you had beginning lessons step by step and homework, but I know you are a busy man. One day I hope to play half as good as you. God bless you.!
so excited!! I get to see Tommy in Kansas City on December 18th!!!!
Thank you . That made me smile .
What make of guitar is Tommy playing here? Im trying to get a look at the headstock but cant quite see it clearly enough. Sounds real nice!
Great lesson from an even greater guy. Thanks Tommy!
Thank you ❤️❤️
What bass is that in the background? the blue-colored bass. That thing is gorgeous
Finally a man I can understand.
What did “anchor down” mean exactly? Leave your strum hand in one spot instead of moving it back and forth?
GOD Bless You 🎸🎸🎸
NEVER thought I would ever hear a guitarist as good as Chet Atkins BUT I must say Tommy is, well, somewhat better. I don't know to what degree, but He does have the edge. I love Fingerstyle. Joe Bonamassa does not pick fingerstyle to my knowledge but He & Tommy ARE my 2 favorites. I listen to both everyday. I get a big kick seeing & hearing Tommy play Blue Moon.
