Glen Campbell’s fantastic guitar solo on “Galveston”

SOURCE VIDEO FOR MY LESSON AND COVER -. THIS SOLO IS PURE BRILLIANCE!!!- The lines show a really deep understanding of both the song structure and the tradition of his musical background. It’s also extremely virtuoustic and contains of all the hallmark’s that make Glen’s playing legendary. Beautiful phrasing, octave runs, arpeggios and sweep, the odd outside notes and chromatic runs weaved in so masterfully. This was REALLY hard to copy- probably the hardest cover I’ve done.

Clean Strat (sounds like early 60s to me) with no gain to hide behind. (distortion sounding guitars are much easier to play and hide a multitude of sins)

Anyway, here’s the cleaned up video- I remixed the sound, applying EQ, rounded out the bass, and normalized the peaks, with about a 3 db gain addition. This sounds better than the original video I took it from.

Guitar players who dig Glen – PLEASE SUBSCRIBE. I have other classic CG solo covers and lessons posted here, with much more on the way.

Glen Campbell was always playing on the radio when I was a child…growing up with his music in the background…never really realizing what a fantastic guitarist he was….now I am older and play the guitar myself and wish he was still with us to hear more.

Frank Gonzales says:

Love the voice and his guitar style of which was inspiring because it came from him, from his heart and mind. I was in high school at the time that Glen had his t.v. show. He was a very popular country singer as well as cross over pop studio session musician and singer. I would like to see all of the A holes who are either so Jazz bound, classical or shredding bound that in reality they are no earthly good as to comment negatively on Glen Campbell. I'd like to see you clowns contribute something worthwhile to the masses. Ahhh, but you can't because that era in which Glen performed, most are old or dead. Your era sees this as old school. As such this would mean that Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and so many others are of another era. Therefore they represent old school. That goes for Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Bennett and so many other icons of another era. You can keep this era. Don't want or need it. Thank God for good old recordings. They are a testament to great talent in an era that sought to reach for the stars, not as in 'rock' star or hip hop star or other deviant forms of what at one time required actual mastery of one's instrument…I'm sure that there is some great talent out there somewhere in the vastness of this wasteland known as the music industry. I venture to say that it is suppressed. I still remember Frank Zappa's take on all of it and where it was headed during his time in the lime light. It was not a good assessment……….I'll stick to my old records, thank you……….

gonzo gonzalez says:

no electronic gadgets there , pure class, thankyou Glen.
