IMO without the other instruments, the strumming through makes it sound better when just being played on guitar.

It's funny that there are other YouTube lessons for this song. I can't think what they can possibly contain that isn't covered in this one. Talk about complete. Brilliant lesson. Cheers, Justin.

I'm so thrilled that you showed the fingerpicking style too. I'm about to start playing guitar for real, and that's how I learned my first songs as a kid. I'd borrow my brother's guitar, but I couldn't figure out how to strum with a pick to get the right sound, so I used my fingers instead. I'm also ambidextrous but play left-handed, so…yeah. He tried to teach me to play and then gave up in frustration, so I kept plucking strings and moving my hands until I learned a couple simple melodies by ear: Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" and Collective Soul's "Shine" (I think that was the name?) Ah, the '90s.

Paul R says:

I got the lyrics and chords off the internet a while back and watched one video. Your video is much better because you show how to play this three different ways. The other way I was playing it was one down stroke on the base and the three up strokes on the high E, B and G strings. The song never sounded right but was just OK.
After your video and playing around with it, the sound is much better. I prefer the picking pattern you showed and the last part of the video (not sure what to call the pattern), with the down stroke on the four strings and then up on the other three. (yes, I know the first is a quarter and the others are eights).
Great video, keep therm coming. I have used your stuff many times. Thank You.
