Here's why this guy annoys me: He can play the TITS OFF of a guitar. And I'll admit, he's a heartfelt, good singer. But he writes crap songs, is reputed, by all accounts, to be a major A-hole, and can we PLEASE drop the "I'm just a guy in a polo playing at an open mic at the college bar" attire and vibe? But FUCK, he's a really good guitar player.

People often comment on his guitar playing but I have to say he has some of the most genius lyrics of this century. Like this one, Another kind of green, Assassin and so on. I'm a guitarist and a big fan but I listen to his music for the lyrics mostly, they're amazing.

Now tell me that this guy isn't a really good if not great guitarist of this generation. How can anyone downplay John's talent. I'm not a fan boy either, I have just been playing guitar for almost 15 years and some of the toughest songs I have analyzed were early John Mayer stuff and I can tell you that him and Derek Trucks are the best of this generation hands down
